MARINA CHAIN COLLECTION
The marina chain, a famous Gucci symbol adorning accessories and jewellery, is now celebrated with a new collection of stylish timepieces whose design features the highly iconic anchor chain sign.

With its rounded links, this unmistakable signature punctuates the smooth bracelet, embracing the oval case and finishing with a clasp shaped like a leather belt buckle.

The marina chain motif was inspired in the 1960s by the world of yachting, another favourite pastime of the Florentine clientele of Guccio Gucci.

The Marina Chain watch, introduced at the 2009 Spring Summer Gucci Women’s Cruise fashion show, is available in two sizes and a rich choice of materials: steel, 18kt yellow gold, or a combination of the two for a striking contrast between the reflections of the two metals.

An elegant black enamel coating can further accentuate the sophistication of this model, adding a glamorous look to the bangles.

Sparkling diamonds can also elegantly adorn the black lacquered or white mother of pearl dial, the case or the bangle.

Distinctive and modern, the new Marina Chain collection aptly illustrates Frida Giannini’s unique flair for reinventing classic Gucci luxury for today.

In 1942, Officine Fontana, watchmaker, was commisioned by his country, Italy, to produce a tailor made watch that would become the pride of the U-BOAT officers. Those distinctive watches had to meet the navy highest quality standards as well as very precise specifications. The firm rose the call but for unknown reasons, the deal aborted before the production started.

The plans lay dormant for decades until Italo Fontana, designer and nephew of Officine Fontana founder, discovered them in the 90’s. The different drawings were still modern after all those years! They will become the template of the actual U-BOAT collections.

A new dimension in time was his first idea, looking at his grandfather drawings... The new dimension that characterized U-Boat watches.

Timeless Italian design, impeccable 21st century craftsmanship and ultimate Swiss movements! U-BOAT watches are about: Strong identity, immediate recognition, large diameters, legibility under all light conditions and, of course, the left hand crown protected by a screwed cap.

In 2005, Italo Fontana join forces with the luxury magnate Mounir Moufarrige, the man behind the revamps of Mont-Blanc & Chloé. The goal was to position U-BOAT watches as the reference in high-end oversized watches.

There are 4 U-BOAT collections for a total of 82 original timepieces: Classico, Flightdeck, Thousands of Feet & Night Vision.

All U-BOAT watches are handmade in Italo Fontana’s little atelier located in Lucca (Toscana).
